After a leisurely morning, Todd and I headed over the Bargello which is a medieval prison that has been turned into a museum to see Donatello’s take on the David statue and an unfinished fountain of Jupiter representing the two rivers in Italy. From there it was lunch at our favorite hole-in-the-wall pizza place for the calzone. My afternoon was spent at the Orsanmichele church to see what the Giotto altarpiece would have looked like if it was still in an altar, and then wandering through the Medici-Ricardi palace to see how the richest, most powerful family in Florence lived in the 1500s (not too shabby). We hiked up to the Piazza Michelangelo again for a picnic dinner. We were there on the steps with all the American students listening to an Italian guitar player sing Phil Collins in English while looking out over the city. We were rained out, but it was still a great way to end the day.
