We toured the Vatican Museum on Friday night. It is opened on Friday's until 9:30 pm, so in our usual tactic of visiting museums about 2 hours before they close, we made reservations for 7:30 pm. There were still a lot of people there - but it wasn't too crowded.
Honestly, the museums are starting to run together. But this one had a lot of statues with fig leave "coverings".
It also had an entire hall with old maps lining each wall. I literally had to drag Todd out of it.
But, of course, the start of the Vatican Museum is Michelangelo's greatest hit, The Sistine Chapel. We had a great audio tour thanks to Rick Steves and I managed to dredge up everything I knew from my Renaissance art class. The audio tour made a great link between an old Greek statue called the Belvedere Torso (also in the Vatican Museum) which Michelangelo revered and his work on the chapel. Fascinating.
