Another day on the lake today. We visited a little village that makes rice wine. Several members of our group held their noses in the fermenting yeast room. Carmen and I thought it smelled pretty good! It wasn't quite the same as how the wine our parents used to make growing up in Saudi smelled, but it was similar.
It was about a 2 hour boat ride to get there and along the way we ran aground! The lake is very shallow, about 4-5 feet in most places. A lot of areas are very marshy. Usually the boat just barrels on through and the floating grasses just part. At one point we were zipping along and then all of a sudden we were on top of land and halted. We all had to get out of our boat and stand on what felt sort of like floating land while all the boat drivers laughed and pushed the boat back into the water. I think the water buffalo behind us were laughing, too.
