We had the morning free before we had to head to the airport so we decided to go back to Shwedagon Pagoda this morning. We saw it on our first day here after traveling for 28 hours, and weren't inspired by it. It was much more beautiful today, without the crowds, heat, or exhaustion. There are specific Buddhas dedicated to the days of the week that you are supposed to pour water on. We figured out our days before we went and Carmen poured water on the Tuesday Buddha, and I did the same on the Friday Buddha.
From Shwedagon we walked across the street to the Sule Pagoda, which we hadn't seen yet. I really wanted to see it, but for a silly reason. When Traveling Blonde 1 and I went to Turkey, we visited the the mosque of Suleman The Magnificent, and so I wanted to see the Sule pagoda to see if it was also magnificent! It was actually very different. There were no tourists there at all and the inside was covered with murals depicting scenes from Buddha's life.
It's been a great trip, but I'm anxious to get home. My daughter broke her arm while I've been here. At first it was just a sprain but, now 3 days later they've put her in a cast that's to stay on for 6 weeks. It's a hot pink cast, so I'm sure she loves it, but I'll be glad to get home.
