Al Ula

We flew to Al Ula today, in the northwestern corner of the country, just south of Jordan.

The landscape here is very different from that in Dhahran, and even in the Rub al Khali. The terrain is sandstone sediment that has been eroded over the years to form these unique rock formations.

This one is called elephant rock.

There was a lot of debate on what the hole in this one looked like. I say it looks like a perfume bottle, others said a bowling pin, or a key hole.

Do you see the face in this one?

This area has some elevation to it, so it was actually quite chilly. The hot tea helped keep us warm. Behind us you can see a date tree farm.

We finished up the evening with a traditional Bedouin dinner in the desert, starting with tea, of course.
