We went to Hofuf today, which is in the Al Hasa region about 2 hours from Dhahran. I remember having a field trip there when I was in the 6th grade.
Our first stop was at the Intercontenetal Hotel, which was really just a bathroom break, but the hotel was gorgeous, and they met us with fresh mango and strawberry juice.
Next stop was the old palace and fort. That was where King Abdulaziz captured the Eastern Provence. The ceiling tresses were palm tree trunks cut in quarters. It really looked neat.
There was a small museum there too that showed the more recent history of Hofuf.
Mext we went to the Oasis for another grand meal. By the way, we have eaten Arab bread and Hummus at breakfast, lunch, and dinner every single day we've been here!
The last stop was the caves. They've really developed them since I went in 6th grade. There is now a sidewalk and lighting throughout. The CEO of Al Hasa Tourism got his PhD in Al Hasa studies, and he told great stories.
The area claims to be the home of Noah (Christians know him for his arc, Muslims call him a prophet), Abraham, and perhaps even the Garden of Eden, and the location of the Tree of Life. The caves are limestone rock so geologically the area was under water for a long time.
Traveling Blonde 1 had fun getting in touch with her inner Indiana Jones.
Another wonderful day in KSA.
