Our first stop after dropping our luggage at the hotel was to Park Guell. It's now a park in the city, but it was originally an estate in the country. Gaudi is known for undulating forms covered in tile mosaics. His style has become synonymous with Barcelona.
From there we went to his most well known building, Sagrada Familia. I really don't want to post pictures because they don't capture even a sliver of the beauty. The pictures of the exterior look like it's a melting sand castle. It looks a little like that in real life but so much more magnificent.
It's not finished yet. It's been under construction for over 100 years. They hope to have it finished be 2026, 100 years after Gaudi's death.
I don't remember ever seeing interior pictures of this church but maybe I have. Like the exterior, the pictures of the interior are ho hum, but in real life it was phenomenal.
Next up were two of Gaudi's houses: Casa Mia and Casa Botllo.
Mom said she was never going to call something "gaudy" again because everything we saw was so beautiful and artistic.
After a glass of sangria and a nap our last stop was to the Barcelona Cathedral. It started to look like more of the same. I guess gothic cathedral fatigue has set in. That's a sign that it's time to go home. Perfect timing since we're flying home in the morning.
