Mont St Michael

We're in Normandy today. If Larry or my dad were with us we would have gone to seen the WWII beaches and cemetery, but since it's just us girls we decided instead to see the abbey that looks like a castle. It's actually what Disney's Tangled (the Rupunzel story) castle was I nspired by.

Until 50 years ago, twice a day at high tide, the abbey was naturally surrounded by water and inaccessible. Even when the tide was out though it was still difficult to access it since the mud surrounding it is riddled with quick sand. They have since built a bridge so we didn't have to time our entrance or exit today, or worry about sinking into that sand.

After the French Revolution it was used as a prison, but today it's a working Benedictine Abbey again.
